One of the most powerful weapons of the Christian soldier is the Sword--The Word of God for it has power to pull down satanic strongholds:

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

And yet, time spent is comprehending this Message for Life is often neglected. Throughout the year, take a moment each day to read what is designated on our Bible Calendar and read. But don't forget your journal, that special notebook, to be used only for your letters to Jesus.

Journaling is not burdensome. It's a joyful experience!

1. Pray before reading a Bible passage. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what the Lord is saying in the scripture. You must remove your "head" and open your "heart" because the Word of God is the Spirit of God communicating to your spirit through your soul, or heart.

2. Open your journal, hold your pen. Write the date and time and Scripture Text you are about to read.

3. Begin to read aloud--the sound of God's Word charges the atmosphere with His presence. Evil forces hate that and flee.

4. As you're reading, allow the Lord to drop His message specifically designed for you. What is the passage, or a particular verse saying to you? Write it down.

5. How can that passage or verse be applied to your life today? Write is down.

6. Write what your soul is struggling with and add a prayer for the Lord to do His will in your situation today.

7. Write one or more things you are thankful to the Lord for.

8. Open your mind to think of one word or short phrase that captures what God revealed to you through this passage. This is called the Truth or Virtue. For example: "Courage," "Fear not, I am with you," "Be Bold."

9. Close with the Lord's Prayer or Psalm 23 Declaration, really paying attention to the Words you are speaking. Try to memorize them.

10. Give thanks for the time you spent with the Lord. Close your journal. You can take it with you in case you want to remember the points you wrote or maybe you want to take another moment during to day to write. Remember, this journal is only meant for you and the Lord. You can also leave the journal in your Quiet Time space or in a secret place until you return to it the next day.
