Communion with the Comforter

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14).

The word communion is the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially on a mental or spiritual level. Communion is communication: your hearing and obeying the voice of God, and He hearing and answering yours.

Your soul is the mental-emotional connection you have with the Comforter through your thoughts and feelings.  When your soul is one with the Holy Spirit, communion rises to a spiritual, or supernatural level wherein you don’t always have to communicate with audible words, but your inner-man groans and God understands you (Romans 8:26); and He can talk with you either by the sound of His voice or by a deep impression (feeling), or dream, vision, illumination, or revelation—no exchange of sounds, but a deep understanding, a knowing.

Jesus cares about the type of relationship you are in with others. The forms of relationships are described below. Jesus desires that you form an intimate relationship with Him

There are various forms of relationships: a) close (or tight), b) distant (or far off), and c) intermittent (not too close, but not too far off). An intimate relationship is the closest of all.  It is one that “nakeds” you, and you are not ashamed (Gen. 2:25).  It’s the kind of relationship, like a true marriage, where you feel comfortable putting your life into the heart of another without fear of condemnation or rejection.  Communion with the Comforter is a divine connection, where you are free to express the inner, the “real”, the authentic you.

You wrap yourself in the relationship with the Comforter after your new birth, that pivotal moment or the turn-around point when you completely stop rebelling against God’s love and run into the loving arms of Jesus Christ.  The new birth facilitates hearing the voice of God because you become His sheep, and His sheep hear His voice.  Through the new birth, man is restored back to fellowship [right relationship], and his spiritual [non-physical] senses are quickened to hear the voice of God’s Holy Spirit (1).

If you are not born again, you cannot connect with the Comforter.  Those who are not born-again and profess to “hear” from the spiritual realm are not “hearing” from God, but from the rebellious angels of the antichrist, the devil, or from the lust of human flesh.

The Comforter gives comfort (a feeling of acceptance, love, healing, and freedom) and edifies (strengthens) your soul by speaking the word of God backed by the scriptures in the Bible.  Do you need comfort right now?  We all do.  If you feel you’ve been living off-course or contrary to the will of God; or that you believe in God, but aren’t that close to Him, stop everything now and pray: Lord Jesus, I repent of my wrong-doing (my sins) and unbelief. You died on the cross and rose again to restore me back to my Father in heaven. Come into my heart.  I make You my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Welcome to the family of believers in the awesome person of Christ Jesus, the glorious unfailing Word of God (John 1:14).  Find yourself a Bible-believing, Holy Spirit-filled church and allow the man or woman of God to guide you through the scriptures and take you on the exciting eternal journey of intimacy with the Comforter.

Who is the Comforter? In John 14:26 (King James Version, KJV), the Holy Spirit is your Comforter.  The Holy Spirit is of the trinity of the Godhead, bearing witness of the Heavenly Father (your Creator) and Jesus Christ, (His Son).  He is the source of personal testimony, illumination, and revelation.  He can guide you in your decisions and protect you from physical and spiritual danger (John 15:26; 16:13). He is known as the Comforter, Helper, Advocate and Counselor; and He can calm your fears and fill you with hope.

There is no denying the existence of the Holy Spirit for we war not with flesh and blood but against . . .  spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). Spiritual forces of wickedness exist; and the evidence is the destruction and terror you witness from the daily news broadcast globally or encounter right inside your own private communities.  If the spiritual forces of darkness are operating around the world, how much more will God, your Heavenly Father, guard you, fill you, direct you, protect you, and empower you with His Holy Spirit?

In communion with the Holy Spirit, God ensures you: “I know the thoughts that I think toward you; thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).  Through the Spirit of God, He comforts you in your weakness, often wrought with fear of pain and failure, by telling you that your future (your every ‘tomorrow’) is bright, so you must keep your hope in Him to bring it to pass alive.  Those who listen to and obey the Father, who are in communion with Him, prove strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

The Holy Spirit, your Comforter, not only teaches you the mind of Christ, the Word of God, but the Spirit of God also empowers the believer to rise up after falling (Micah 3:8a; 7:8), to shake off the wickedness shot at your character and way of life (Psalm 91:5-8), to avoid spiritual traps set out to snare you physically, to guard your steps, and to fill you with joy overflowing.  The Holy Spirit comforts your soul as you experience the ups and downs of life and lifts you up on higher ground above the turbulent waves of the enemy who comes to kill, steal, and destroy.  To God be the glory, Jesus Christ our victory, and the Holy Spirit our comforter.

God’s Spirit is Holy.  Communion with the Comforter requires and encourages you to remain holy in conduct which includes the way you think (your thought patterns), the way you speak (generated from your thought patterns), and the way you behave (the actions you accelerate from the way you think).    Your conduct rests within your soul, the seat of your thoughts and feelings.   Sharing and exchanging intimate thoughts and feelings with the Lord requires that your soul must be in one accord with holiness, a lifestyle of purity.

Purity powers holiness; and holiness, rooted in love, is the greatest force in the universe.  You can never be defeated hedged in holiness. You can only experience what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which all knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:18-19; Psalm 23:5).  That fullness is God’s Holy Spirit living in you—anointing you to do greater exploits for His Kingdom (John 14:12).
